NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

18 May 2022

This statement covers the period from the meeting of the County Council on 16 February 2022 to the County Council elections on 5 May 2022

STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN OF THE TRANSPORT ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEE

The Transport Economy and Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee has a remit that includes the following:

·         Transport and communications infrastructure of all kinds, however owned or provided, and how the transport needs of the community are met

·         Supporting business, helping people develop their skills, including lifelong learning

·         Sustainable development, climate change strategy, countryside management, waste management, environmental conservation and enhancement flooding and cultural issues.

There has been one meeting of the committee since my last statement to Council.  The meeting was held on 13 April 2022.  The following items were discussed:

·         North Yorkshire County Council’s Plan for Economic Growth

·         Waste collection and treatment in North Yorkshire.

The agenda was limited due to the meeting being held in the pre-election period.  There were, however, in-depth discussions around the following:

·         The work that is being done by the Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership to enable the economic recovery from the pandemic

·         The progress being made with the implementation of the Transforming Cities Fund and the Towns Fund

·         The impact of Local Government Review and Devolution upon the delivery of economic development work across the county

·         The potential implications of the Resources and Waste Strategy for England, which will be enacted as part of the Environment Act, for waste collection and processing/disposal in the county.

It is anticipated that the committee work programme will be reviewed by the new committee when they first meet on 12 July 2022.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR STANLEY LUMLEY
